Aldous Harding, stage name of Hannah Sian Topp, born in New Zealand, is one of the most unique voices in contemporary indie folk. Her music combines emotional intensity with a captivating and surprising stage presence. After her debut album, Aldous Harding (2014), she gained international recognition with Party (2017), produced by John Parish, a collaboration that helped define her minimalist and atmospheric sound. In 2019, she released Designer, whose track “The Barrel” won the Silver Scroll Award, reinforcing her critical acclaim. More recently, Warm Chris (2022) showed an even more daring Aldous in her vocal and aesthetic exploration, consolidating her as one of today's most innovative songwriters.
What sets her apart is the way she uses her voice as a changeable instrument, capable of taking on different timbres and personalities, and how she writes enigmatic lyrics that invite us to interpret freely. On stage, each concert becomes an experience associated with a ritual, with a theatricality that makes her music even more engaging. The visual component of her work is equally striking: her music videos, many in collaboration with director Martin Sagadin, expand the imagery of her songs, creating a fascinating universe of her own that combines sound, image, and performance.
