Capitão Fausto is a portuguese band formed in Lisbon in 2009, composed of Tomás Wallenstein, Manuel Palha, Domingos Coimbra, and Salvador Seabra. Their music combines indie rock, psychedelic pop, and progressive rock, reflecting influences ranging from classic rock of the 1960’s and 1970’s to more modern and experimental textures, creating a distinctive and recognizable sound identity.
Throughout their career, they have released several notable albums: Gazela (2011), with youthful energy and incisive guitars; Pesar o Sol (2014), more experimental and psychedelic; Capitão Fausto Têm os Dias Contados (2016), which established them with the portuguese public; A Invenção do Dia Claro (2019), recorded between Lisbon and São Paulo, with cinematic arrangements; and Subida Infinita (2024), which marks a new phase of artistic and personal maturity. Known for their energetic and interactive concerts, and for the care taken in the arrangements and construction of their albums, Capitão Fausto have established themselves as one of the most important and innovative groups in contemporary Portuguese music.
