E.1027 - EILEEN GRAY AND THE HOUSE BY THE SEA
Eileen Gray builds a house on the Côte d’Azur in 1929 and names it “E.1027”, a coded union of her initials and those of Jean Badovici. The villa is discreet and radically modern. When Le Corbusier encounters it, fascination turns to intrusion. He paints murals on its walls, publishes the images, and later erects his Cabanon beside it. Gray calls the act vandalism and asks for restitution. Her voice is sidelined, while his version of the site prevails.
